Make an appointment with Career Guidance for Civilian Personnel of the Royal Netherlands Navy (CZSK) for a career conversation. One of the tools they use is a Talent Motivation Analysis (TMA). Are you a civilian employee interested in gaining insight into your opportunities within the navy? What would you like to do, and what are you capable of? Then schedule an appointment with Career Guidance for Civilian Personnel CZSK for a career conversation. One of the tools they use is a Talent Motivation Analysis (TMA). With this, you gain insight into your motives and what exactly drives you. Already, about 200 employees have completed a TMA.

"TMA is a tool to make better and more informed career choices," says Career Guidance Officer for Civilian Personnel, Annick Williams-Hachim, getting straight to the point. Do you think a leadership position suits you, but you're unsure if you have what it takes to manage personnel? "TMA provides insight into this."

Inner Exploration

According to Williams, you can view a TMA as an inner exploration. An exploration of your motives and talents. In total, the analysis measures 22 motives and 44 talents. Thus, the TMA provides insight into what motivates and drives you, enabling you to better steer your career. For example, which motives are these: how do you handle stress and pressure? What is your self-worth, and what does ambition mean to you? Furthermore, the analysis delves into how you deal with challenges, whether you have social empathy, and if you are persistent. And how do you handle responsibility, order, and structure? The scores indicate what you need in your role to bring out the best in yourself. "There are likely always tasks that don't directly align with your motives and talents," explains Williams, "but this doesn't necessarily conflict. A study or course could provide a solution."

Clarifying

Back to the TMA, a tool that is used by multiple organizations, such as the police and Post.nl. The career coach can request a TMA for you. The analysis consists of 312 statements. Each time, you choose the statement that best fits you. After completing the questions, you will receive a personal report. This report reflects your motives and the building blocks of your personality. Motives and (resulting) talents are factors that drive certain behaviors or inhibit them. "When tasks align with your talents and motives, it is very motivating."

“If work matches your talents and motivations, it is very motivating.”

Gain insight

After completing the TMA, you will be invited by your career coach for an evaluation discussion. In this discussion, the results are explained in detail. "TMA is a tool to gain insight, not to judge or condemn someone," Williams continues. The analysis is primarily intended for the employee themselves. "However, we do recommend discussing the TMA with your supervisor." According to Williams, the TMA report does not end up in the employee's personnel file.

Movement

Williams explains that a TMA is also of great value for the navy, particularly in increasing mobility. The analysis provides enlightening insights and allows for the generation of ideas. Converting these ideas into actions is up to the employee themselves. Finally, they take the step to move from one position to another. "There are several options for this, such as a work experience placement or an internship."

Williams doesn't shy away from admitting that sometimes it takes courage to change jobs or fields of work, especially when you've been sitting in the same chair for years and have become accustomed to it. "You really have to be open to switching. People must dare to switch."
